Guardian Homes Program

two boys with a poodle In order to continue to expand a wonderful breeding program here at elegant puppies and to make certain all of our breeding dogs live in a home and not in a kennel, we have decided to place some of our upcoming dogs in a loved and spoiled home with their very own forever family.

A Guardian Home acts as a foster home for one of our breeding males or females. We would place a breeding quality puppy in a forever home with approved families living within 1 hour for a male and 1 ½ hours for a female of Grand Rapids, Michigan if retaining a guardian dog.

For a Female, she will live with the guardian family until it’s time to whelp her puppies. At that time she will return to our home and stay with us until the puppies are weaned at 6-7 weeks old and then she’ll return to your home. After 4-5 litters, she is spayed and retires to your home forever and she then becomes your dog.

For a Male, he would need to come to our house when our girls need to be bred or if another breeder has paid for his services. This takes about 3-5 days. For the males after their fifth time with us, Males will be neutered by the age of 5 years unless previously agreed upon or our vet finds it to be necessary sooner.

Requirements for Potential Guardian Homes

Our requirements for a family to be considered for a guardian home for one of our Puppies or breeding adults is the following:

You must live no more then 1 hour of Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503
You must not expect to move away from the area before the terms of your contract are fulfilled.
You also must own your own home.
Your must be financially stable and be secure
Puppy or dog must be taken to proper obedience training.
You must be willing to part with the dog for periods of time for breeding and whelping.
Your new puppy must live in your home not outside.
You must be willing to transport the dog to me if needed for breeding purposes.
You must provide adequate attention, high quality dog food, exercise and general veterinary care on a regular basis.
You will have to stay in contact with us and always respond to our emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
You must provide references for us and allow us to come to your home to meet with you and see your home.
The dog must be able to visit our home to get used to us and our surroundings for breeding purposes.
